GoWaste is led by Dawn and Carl, who have been part of the New Zealand waste industry for more than four decades.
The journey began in 1990, building Dunedin Waste from the ground up before later selling the business to Waste Management. From there, Carl went on to hold senior roles across the sector with major corporate operators including Enviro NZ, Metro Waste, and Veolia.
In 2013, Dawn and Carl teamed up with James Redmayne and Rob Baan to found WasteCo, growing it into a nationally recognised operator and ultimately listing WasteCo on the NZX in 2022.
Most people would retire at that point. Not Dawn and Carl.
Instead, they did what they know best—started again, bringing decades of hard-earned knowledge back to a service-focused, customer-first business: GoWaste.
Part of Something Bigger
GoWaste is owned by Waste Investments, a group with a clear long-term vision: over the coming years, Waste Investments plans to own around a dozen waste companies across New Zealand, through a mix of greenfield start-ups and strategic acquisitions.
GoWaste will play a critical role as a feeder business for strategically located PEFco plants being developed nationwide.
At these plants, waste will be carefully and strategically AI-sorted, selecting only the 85% of material suitable for processing. The remaining 15%—unsuitable for recovery for technical or safety reasons—will be responsibly managed.
The result?
PEFco plants will manufacture a clean, low‑carbon engineered fuel, providing a genuine coal replacement, reducing emissions, and creating dozens of skilled local jobs.
